About TEDxPortHarcourt

We are organizing a fourth TEDx event and the theme of the event is ‘Complexity?’ The theme will shed light on the challenges our country and the world at large have experienced over time till date, and how understanding complexity as a framework can provide greater insights in understanding our Ideals, Design, Politics, Education, Communication, Human Rights , Entertainment and much more.

The speakers will try to give forecasts on where we are going to, judging from current indices, and when different variables are applied. Designing and developing anything of consequence is incredibly challenging; technology, the economy, governance, policies, cuisine, lifestyle, health plan, human resources and the list goes on. Simplicity is sometimes unaware of itself and other times the quest for simplicity has to pervade every part of the process.

Whether you’re religious, a scientist, philosopher or just an average joe, one has to recognize intelligent complexity to some degree. It’s completely unavoidable that nothing is “simple” in the sense of how everything exists in the first place. Simplicity and complexity are merely ideas; subjective.

With TEDxPortHarcourt 2016 we hope to create meaningful conversations that assures a tomorrow that feels meaningful in its contribution of creating more opportunities, possibilities and choices. It’s our purpose to harness and augment the complexity which we find beautiful, interesting and useful.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Starting as a four-day conference in California in 1984, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak about an idea worth sharing. Their talks are then made available for all at TED.com and YouTube.

TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Sir Richard Branson, Isabel Allende, Malcom Gladwell, Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, Jane Goodall, Philippe Starck and Gordon Brown. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
