Dr. Ureh
Annabel Oparaodu is a consultant Otorhinolaryngologist/Ear, Nose & Throat
Surgeon in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching hospital (UPTH).
She
became a certified medical practitioner after attaining the MBBS degree from
the University of Port Harcourt then proceeded to do a residency training
program in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery at the University of Port Harcourt
Teaching Hospital, from where she became the first female doctor from Rivers State
to attain a Fellowship in Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) in the West African College
of Surgeons.
During Ureh’s
residency she served as Treasurer, Vice President and became the first female
President of the Association of Resident Doctors in the South-South Region of
Nigeria. This platform presented the opportunity to positively impact her immediate
environment by organizing the first ARD Research methodology course, setting up
an electronic library and giving back to the hospital community by renovating,
rehabilitating and equipping the UPTH Creche.
In 2018
Dr. Oparaodu was awarded Leading Women in Rivers State by Port Harcourt
Business and Peoples Award Organisation and has received numerous meritorious
awards from the Association of Resident Doctors, Assemblies of God Church, as
well as a Fellowship from the Institute of Policy Management and Development.
She has served in various committees in the Rivers State chapters of the Nigerian
Medical Association and the Medical Women Association, She is also the charity
run initiator for Chimdi Odu Foundation (COF).
Dr Ureh
Oparaodu was born into the family of Late Dr. Chimdi A. Odu and Prof. Ngozi Nma
Odu of Ogba Egbema Ndoni LGA in Rivers State and is married to Mr. Nyema David
Oparaodu. They are blessed with 2 children.
