Professor Iyenemi Ibimina Kakulu is Professor of Land Management and Valuation who has maintained intellectual curiosity over the past 35 years in her academic career with several publications and other intellectual works. She is a chartered Real Estate professional and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers who holds a bachelor’s Degree in Estate Management from the Rivers State University, a master’s Degree in Urban Land Appraisal and a Doctorate Degree in Real Estate and Planning from the Henley, Business School, University of Reading, United Kingdom. She has considerable working experience and has held several senior leadership positions in real estate professional circles in Nigeria and within the University system where she began as an Assistant Lecturer in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become the first Professor of Land Management and Valuation, globally. In this role, she represents a nexus between Land use, misuse and abuse; and the long-term impacts on property value, constantly identifying and delivering public lectures to international and national audiences. Professor Kakulu has several academic works and publications including works on climate change adaptation and sustainable development. Her recent works include monitoring of climate change induced flooding in coastal cities and the impact this has on property investments in terms of value depreciation. In this area she has initiated and supervised postgraduate works that address mainstreaming climate change into property management, climate change and adaptation of buildings, strengthening disaster preparedness of coastal towns to deal with climate change amongst other productive works.
